GENERAL
What is The Equilibrium of Night?
The Equilibrium of Night
is a free form, play be email, role playing game.
What is "freeform"?
Freeform means that there
are no rules, but we do have guidelines.
Who are the GM's and Admins?
The fourGM's are Dustyn, Sean, Kelly, Jay, and Adam.
Miami Admin-Sean Dillon
Chicago Admin-Dustyn McCormick
Seattle Admin-Kelly Whalen
Boston Admin- Dustyn McCormick
Can my player do what ever
I want him/her to do since this is freeform?
No. Players should keep the overall storyline in mind when posting, as
well as their character's individual storylines. Try to be reasonable
when posting. It would be totally unreasonable for a vampire to take on
a dozen hunters and come out unscathed.
How often do I need to post?
The minimum number of posts is two per week, but there is no maximum limit.
In fact, the more often you post, the better. If you know you will not
be able to make your minimum number of posts for some reason (i.e. illness,
work, school, vacation, etc.), please contact your city administator.
We do understand how "real life" can sometimes get in the way of fun.
How should I make a non-gaming
comment in a post?
Use NRPG (Non Role Playing Game) or OOC (Out Of Character) at the end
of your post. example OOC: Sorry for taking so long to post. :)
Can I include other player's
characters in my posts?
Yes and no. You can write for other player's character in your post, (i.e.
in conversation) you MAY NOT write the whole post from the point of view
of another player's character. Also, try to have the character act "in
character", and avoid putting thoughts and actions into another player's
character's head. Let the other player react for him/herself.
What are NPC's?
Non Player Characters. NPC's are characters active in the game, that are
not the "main" character of a player. In our game, some NPC's are "owned",
meaning that permission is needed from the owner to use the character.
"Free" NPC's can be used by anyone. You may write posts for them, as long
as the actions are in character for the NPC. Each city has a list of important
NPC's. They are an important part of the game, allowing for a more detailed
and inhabited world.
Can I create an NPC?
Yes. How do you think we got the ones we have? Just please don't go overboard.
Also, if you don't wish to create one, you don't have to.
What is God-Moding?
God-Moding is increasing your character's powers to God like proportions.
Whether it be rituals, technology, magic, armies of NPC's, whatever, it
is NOT allowed. We feel a good storyline comes from our character's being
realistic in their limitations. It is no fun to play a game where you
know that no matter what you do, you can not hurt a certain character.
I have some questions about
the rules. Who should I ask?
Please email your city administator. If it is a rule that has not been
covered, the three GM's will discuss it and come to a decision.
Why is there more than one
GM? Most games I know have only one.
Originally three of us came up with the game together. Having played in
one previously where the one GM was an all controlling freak, we felt
it might work better with three. As the game grew more were needed to
divide decision making.
In doing so it makes it that all decisions are made
as a group so the fault falls to no one person in particular. Also there
is never a tie, as there would be with any even numbered GM's, and there
is never just one person making the decision, as there would be with only
one.
CITIES
What cities are there?
Currently there are three cities: Chicago, Miami, and Seattle. The
next city seheduled to open is Boston on or about April 1, 2001. As for
more only time and members will tell.
Who decides what city I go to?
You will be placed where you are needed most. We are trying to maintain
an equal balance of hunters and vampires in each city. Depending on the
character you create, decides where you go. When all cities are at an
equal balance, we will take into consideration the city you would prefer.
CHARACTERS, DEATHS, ETC.
Can my character die?
Only if you choose for your character to do so. You can only kill a player
character, or owned NPC, with permission from that character's player.
How do I post?
First, you need to be a member of our egroups. If your application is
accepted, you will be sent an invitation. Please reply to it ASAP. The
sooner you reply, the sooner you can begin playing the game. Once you
are added to egroups, you then direct your posts there. Also, you can
post directly from the egroups website. Posts may be made in either HTML
or plain text.
I've sent a post, but it
hasn't shown up yet. Should I resend it?
Wait a little bit first. Sometime egroups does get backed up. If your
post hasn't shown up for 24 hours, then by all means, go ahead and repost.
My post came in just moments
after another player's and they conflict. Which post stands?
Generally the first post to arrive in egroups is the post that stands.
The second post is to be ignored or rewritten. But, the two players in
conflict may decide among themselves to go with the second post.
I have more questions.
Then email Sean
Dillon, Dustyn
McCormick, or Kelly Whalen.
We will be more than happy to answer any questions you have.
